A catalogue may show one-stage and two-stage regenerative blowers with very different maximum pressure ratings. The larger number can look reassuring when an existing line is underperforming. It is useful only if the unit also provides the required flow at that pressure, within its permitted continuous duty. A two-stage label is a construction detail, not evidence that your process will run better.
Define the difficult operating point first
Measure or calculate the pressure and flow needed when the process is hardest to serve: the longest active branch, the highest simultaneous demand or the most restrictive approved product. Include inlet losses and the actual pipe layout. Do not combine a maximum-flow figure from one end of a curve with maximum pressure from the other. For an industrial air-knife system, the governing requirement is the accepted air at the knife and the upstream pressure needed to deliver it. If a nozzle is partly blocked, fixing it may lower resistance enough to avoid a machine change. If the legitimate installed pressure requirement remains higher than a single-stage candidate can support at the necessary flow, ask the supplier for a two-stage curve at the full duty range.
Review the costs of higher pressure capability
Ask how the proposed unit will operate in low-demand modes, what relief or bypass protection it needs and whether discharge heat and noise will change in the installed enclosure. Compare the seller’s pressure definition, ambient and inlet conditions, and continuous operating limits. A machine designed for positive pressure is not automatically interchangeable with a vacuum version, even when both are marketed as side channel blowers.

Send the duty evidence, not just the catalogue term
The useful inquiry includes the old exact model and stage count, all required operating points, protection scheme and process acceptance result. A request for a high pressure regenerative blower is more useful when it includes these measurements: suppliers can then show whether a particular two-stage machine or another arrangement actually meets the duty. That information lets you compare real alternatives instead of labels.
